Cowdray House Wedding

Hayley and Sam’s Cowdray House wedding was one of those days that felt relaxed from start to finish. Set in the Sussex countryside near Midhurst, Cowdray House is one of my favourite wedding venues to photograph thanks to its mix of elegant interiors, huge gardens and genuinely laid-back atmosphere.

As a Cowdray House wedding photographer, it’s always a fun day to document weddings here. The scale of the house, the historic interiors, and the surrounding grounds create the perfect setting for a wedding that feels both grand and completely relaxed at the same time. As long as the coupe bring the vibe, the day is always incredible.

Why Cowdray House is Perfect for Relaxed Weddings

One of the things that makes a wedding at Cowdray House so special is having the entire space to yourselves, and Hayley and Sam made the most of it from the very start of the day.

The morning unfolded slowly across the estate. Guests mingled around the castle walls, drinks in hand, enjoying the sunshine, while the bridal party got ready in the beautiful bedrooms inside the house. There was no rush, no pressure, just a calm, excited atmosphere building naturally as the day began.

Meanwhile, the boys spent the morning by the pool, soaking up the summer weather and setting the tone for the relaxed, fun energy that carried through the entire wedding.

The ceremony took place inside Buck Hall, one of the most striking spaces at Cowdray House. With dramatic natural light pouring in and the room filled with flowers, it created an incredible backdrop for what turned out to be a deeply personal and emotional ceremony.

Led by a close friend, the atmosphere felt relaxed and intimate from the start. Hayley and Sam shared their own vows, which brought a real sense of honesty and emotion to the room. At one point, the groom was in tears, and he wasn’t the only one. You could feel the emotion ripple through the guests, creating one of those moments that stays with you long after the day is over.

For me, this is what documentary wedding photography is all about- capturing not just how it looked, but how it felt to be there. The expressions, the reactions, the subtle connections between people, these are the images that bring everything back when you look through the gallery years later.

Hope you enjoy some of my favourite moments below.
