Summer Garden Wedding in Surrey
Annie & Calum’s Relaxed DIY Garden Wedding in Surrey
I’ve captured many fun back garden weddings in my career, but Annie and Calum’s might just be the most fun I’ve had, and easily one of the wildest parties I’ve photographed. Their Surrey summer garden wedding was hosted at the bride’s family home, and the family went all out to create a magical setting. A marquee held 100 guests, decorated with over 100 hand-tied ribbons, giving the space a colorful, personal, and joyous atmosphere. I loved how welcoming everyone was. It truly felt like being part of the family.
The ceremony took place in the garden, with Annie’s brother stepping in as registrar. Guests cheered as confetti flew at the end, officially kicking off the celebrations. The couple kept the ceremony brief so everyone could enjoy the garden and stay comfortable in the summer heat.
One of the highlights was the surprise brass band. They lifted the energy instantly, got everyone involved, and even formed a parade march around the house. As a documentary wedding photographer, these are the moments I live for. Energy, movement, and candid action were everywhere I looked. I circled the crowd, capturing smiles, laughter, and the vibrant atmosphere of a truly memorable wedding day.
This DIY Surrey garden wedding was full of personality, family love, and unforgettable moments. From the handmade ribbons to the brass band parade, every detail reflected the couple’s vision and spirit. Celebrations like this are exactly why I love photographing back garden weddings. The freedom, the authenticity, and the joy in every corner made this a truly special day.
